First Days of School 2015

I think I was just as anxious about the first day of school as the kids were and had a hard time sleeping the night before.
New routine, early wake time, pressure to arrive on time, 3 kids in school, 5 kids to get out the door.

But all went well.  The morning went smoothly, and we weren't even rushed to take pictures before we headed off.

Here is our 3rd and 5th grader.

Looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  Evelyn and Austin couldn't keep their eyes off of a cat that had wondered into our driveway.  It was nice Lucas started the second day to give him a trial run of what it's going to be like to wake up early and move on a schedule to be out the door on time.

There wasn't much guidance from Faye's teacher when we walked into the room.  Faye saw where the backpacks were hung but didn't see where to put lunch boxes.  I told her she should ask her teacher.  She was hesitant but with a little bit of encouragement went up and asked.  The teacher pulled out a tub that was not as visible with all the backpacks.  As this was going on, half the kids who were already seated in the class started pushing back their chairs and going to get their lunchboxes in the right spot.

It made me smile.  Faye was already being a leader for good.

Calvin all set up at his desk.  He is front and center and from the looks of it, right next to the teacher's desk.

Alright, so second day and it was Mr. Lucas' turn.
The night before I had my eyes closed, kneeling at his bed waiting for him to say his prayers when he very enthusiastically tapped me on the shoulder, leaned in, and whispered loudly in my ear, "Tomorrow is going to be a super great day!"
He is so excited!
This is our first year to be participating in full-day kindergarten, so kind of a big change.  6 1/2 hours instead of 2 1/2, eating lunch at school, having specials, walking to and from school.  But he is ready, and I think will handle it well except maybe being quite tuckered out the first few weeks.

I think it's cute that they all have glasses now.

Getting Lucas all situated in his classroom.  He took a long time in deciding which table to sit at, but he finally chose the paper and markers one.

This is Lucas' "it's time for you to go, Mommy" look.

And then there were two...
