It was the weekend of our ward's Father/Son Camp out. Soon after Matt left with Lucas and Calvin, the rest of us headed to do some strawberry picking. The strawberry season was super short last year, and we missed it, so I have been determined to get some for jam.
Faye was a great helper and picked what is in the white bucket and helped entertain Austin and Evelyn while I picked.
All in all we picked about 20 pounds in 1 1/2 hours. The girl at the check out was impressed. She wasn't sure how we were going to do with all those kids. :) Strawberries are much more labor intensive to pick than other berries, so I am glad we got as much as we did.
By the end of the next day, they turned into this. I did this with our peaches last year, but this was the first to try it with strawberries. I just washed and de-stemmed them and then gave them a couple of pulses in our blender and then poured them into the containers...no pectin, no added sugar, no boiling. So far we have had it on pancakes and on ice cream. The kids liked it, and we like the fresher taste.
Saturday morning we painted nails. Evelyn was hesitant at first but then warmed up to the idea...could hardly contain her excitement.
Those are her sweet little toes.
Then it was Faye's turn. We did both finger and toe nails.
We had a good time. Faye and I enjoyed having some one-on-one time Friday evening after the other two were in bed. I need to work on doing that more often with each of the kids.
