Truths and Lies

Last Sunday in Primary the lesson was "Always Tell the Truth." So I took the idea from the board game, Chutes and Ladders, and made it into Truths and Lies. The kids in my primary class really had fun with it, so I used it for Family Home Evening with Calvin and Faye.

The goal is to get closer and closer to Jesus. If you land on a space with a ladder, it means you told a truth and get to climb up it. If you land on a space with a slide, it means you told a lie and you have to slide down. I then shared a made-up situation of the child telling the truth or a lie. That was probably the funnest part. I really liked how it created a very visual experience of how being honest allows us to be nearer to Jesus. In my primary class, no one reached the top because of time, and they asked who was the winner. I answered that we were all winners, and it made me stop and think that the most important thing is that we are all striving to go up and that we keep moving forward even we we encounter an occasional slide.
